Investment in a multitasking turning and milling center including peripheral equipment as well as in a measuring center.
The goal of the investment is to produce engine components using new manufacturing technology to enable the use of more environmentally friendly fuels and to save fuel and CO² through highly precise components.
Large engines for ships, locomotives, and stationary power units cannot be replaced by CO²-free drives in the coming decades. However, new environmental standards require urgent improvements to components. Our strategy is to participate in innovations and rapid developments by manufacturing innovative components for the international market.
Newly developed components made from difficult-to-machine, high-strength chrome, nickel, and/or manganese alloys will be manufactured. These components will be used in new injection systems for large engines that can withstand the highest stresses. Such components are mainly used in fuel injection systems for locomotives, ship engines, and stationary power units.
In the newly invested manufacturing center, kmb will no longer use coolant emulsions but will instead use cooling and lubricating media specifically developed for these high-strength materials, oil alloys that enable the use of new tools. A milestone is particularly the use of specially designed lubricating and cooling media tailored to the machining process to achieve the required machining qualities and highly dense surface finishes. Surface densification in the manufacturing process provides these components with enormous resistance in applications with pressures exceeding 2000 bar.
A software programmed specifically for the manufacturing method will monitor and stabilize the linked processes. In addition, appropriate measuring equipment, including coordinate measuring machines, is required.
To make a contribution to climate goals and future CO² neutrality, the energy for the facility will be produced from a new photovoltaic system.
